Default Harness Identification and key pinouts

I got a substantial chunk of the wiring done for my LS1 swap over the weekend.

I plan on doing a fully wright up in the tech section once I'm done.

Part of what I did was take some photos of the harnesses before I started cutting them up... then I labeled them to match the FSM and color coded each connector. and identified the function.

This information is useful to anyone doing ANY motor swap... since it basically discusses which parts of the harness must be removed and which ones can stay.

This is not finished yet... but already I think it's more useful than most of the info out there.

--------------------------
Red - Not Needed for Engine Swap can be removed completely.
Green - Needed for proper operation of Engine/Chassis should be left intact and un-cut
Blue - Needed for Optional Chassis Function (Cruise control/ABS/Windshield Wipers, etc.), but not needed for motor to run.
Yellow - Connector should be removed but some or all of the wires must be spliced into the new motor's harness.

Upper Engine Harness (EL-199):

F1 - KA Engine - Connects to KA ECM

Default Re: Harness Identification and key pinouts

*You may notice that a lot of IACV items go through the F3 plug... this is because of the Air Conditioning system... it kicks up the idle when the AC is activated so a lot of that sensor information is routed through the HVAC controls.

Also people can feel free to comment in this thread. I only need to edit the first post to make my updates.

44 (Blue/Red)- IACV Solenoid Signal
45 (Orange/Black)- AC Triple Pressure Switch Signal (Ground)
46 (Orange/Blue)- AC/Thermo Control Amp

Other things that need to be done:
-Pin 1 of the Fuel pump relay is currently connects one side of the coil to a fused ignition switched power source, this connection must be cut and instead tied to ground. Needed for the fuel pump to work

-the AC triple pressure switch connector must be cut off and the wires spliced together such that the switch is always "ON", needed for AC to work.

Lower KA Harness Connections
E209 - Connect to LS Alternator (if alternator has wire going to the starter then you can piggy back off of the starter connection)
E211 - Connect to LS Starter Trigger
E216 - Connect to the Speed Sensor output on the LS PCM (need a converter box to quadruple the speed signal)

Default Re: Harness Identification and key pinouts

Using a Zenki S14 Harness On a Kouki...

The above S14 information was taken from a 1995 FSM

I went through the 1997 FSM with the same detail and here are the differences (pin numbers references this diagram, NOT the numbers in the FSM, they ARE different)

pin 13 - on zenki this is a yellow wire, on kouki it's black, it has the same function on both

pin 28 - on the zenki this is unused, on the kouki there is a signal from the headlight switch that is routed through this pin to the ECM to inform it of an "electrical load"

pin 32 - on zenki this wire informs the ECM when the AC or defroster is being used, on the Kouki this pin is NOT used

pin 37 - on zenki this is used for the PAIR relay (related to AC), on the Kouki this is used for the AC Recirculation relay (kouki doesn't have PAIR)

pin 46 - on zenki this is is used for the Thermal Control Amp. the Kouki doesn't have a Thermal control amp and instead this is used to inform the ECM when the AC or defroster is being used (basically pin 32 from the zenki was moved to pin 64 for the kouki)

------------
Cliff Notes:
if attempting to use a Zenki harness in a Kouki you'll need to:
-cut the wire at pin 32
-cut the wire at pin 46 (leave a pigtail)
-splice the wire from pin 32 onto the pigtail where pin 46 used to be

- (optional) run a wire from the headlight switch in the dash to pin 28 to signal electrical load, but it wont really hurt anything if you don't (you'll need to salvage a pin from one of the unused locations)

if attempting to use a Kouki harness in a Zenki you'll need to:
-cut the wire at pin 46 (leave a pigtail)
-splice the wire from pin 46 into pin 32's location (you'll need to salvage a pin from one of the unused locations)

-run a new wire from the pigtail at pin 46 to the thermal control amp (kind of a pain in the ass)
