I think it's pretty obvious from the pic that I need new tie ends...

damn that's a neat scoop for 2gs.

as for the keys, I broke an s13 key in a door once. spent like an hour and a half removing the panel (doesn't help at all), trying magnets (keys aren't magnetic) and trying tweezers (locks are tighter than my tweezers).

finally I brought it to a local locksmith. he charged me $15, walked outside, had my key removed with a lockpick kit in 30 seconds, went back inside and made me a new copy of my key using the two broken halves. this $15 was easily more affordable than my time/headache.

also, if you have AAA (car must be reg'd) they will send a locksmith out for free and do whatever you want.

Thanks, Sausage King of Chicago! I'll definitely go that route instead of trying it myself

this car is turning from treasure to trash pretty fast. the rust spots turned out to be rust holes. how the hell can you tell before buying? I knocked on it hard and it felt solid... I wouldn't let someone take a whiz wheel to a car I was selling!

A good rules is

if it doesn't look rusty at all ... it's probably a little rusty
it it looks a little rusty... it's probably A LOT rusty
if it looks A LOT rusty ... avoid at all costs

----------------

On an S14 you don't need to look too far to determine how clean it is... check the seems in the engine bay, rocker panels and rear quarters, if those areas are all clean then it's probably a solid car... if you seeing signs of rust then chances are it gets worse the deeper you go.

KA S14s shouldn't be any slower or faster than DOHC S13s, If the car is slow then it probably needs a tune-up.

As for the squishy suspension, that's because it's a base model not an SE.. .the SE had slightly stiffer/lower suspension as well larger sway bars. (base didn't even come with a rer sway) Not to mention they're probably shot to garbage along with your tension rod bushings.

Even still I've seen people spend more on worse... I personally opt to spend $5K+ to find the cleanest chassis possible... because to fix that stuff on a cheap car you'll end up spending more than that in the long run anyway.

i had that same problem,twice

scooped an s14 a few years ago for 500.....entire thing was rotted from the inside out

my current one,1500, little to no rust, putting rear control arms in,,,,missing a chunk of my rear subframe...have to get a new subframe mount welded in,and stud made....and fenderwells made....FML .

I feel that s14's tend to hide rust better than the 13s

I usually poke at rust with a knife. If the knife goes in it's caca.

Put it back on Craigslist for $2500 and make some money off a retard that wants to jump on the dorifto bandwagon
